Calls in a coworking space: booths, etiquette and plan limits

Phone booths, call zones and meeting rooms differ by venue and plan. What to check if calls are a core part of your working day.

Decide what your call load actually is

Count your calls on a normal day and separate them: short internal check-ins, long video calls, and client meetings. Each fits a different space, from an open desk to a booth to a booked room. The venue you need is the one that covers your real mix.

If calls dominate your day, a venue whose call facilities are an afterthought will frustrate you daily. Make this a primary selection criterion, not a footnote.

Check the booths, not the brochure

Ask how many booths exist, whether they can be reserved, for how long, and what happens at peak hours. A venue with two booths and fifty members on calls has a queue, not a facility.

Test a booth with a real call during a trial day: ventilation, lighting, a place for your laptop, and whether the person on the other end can hear the corridor.

Understand the call zones and the etiquette

Venues split space differently: quiet zones where calls are banned, general areas where short calls are tolerated, and designated call areas. Ask where each rule applies and how it is enforced.

Following the room's norms protects your own working day too. The member taking a loud call at a shared table is buying themselves a reputation.

Price the room hours you will use

For calls that need privacy or several people, a meeting room is the right tool. Check the hourly rates, the included monthly credits on your plan, the booking lead time and the cancellation rules.

Add your likely room hours to the membership comparison. A cheaper plan with expensive rooms can cost more than a pricier plan that includes them.

Have a fallback for the call you cannot miss

For genuinely important calls, confirm your setup the day before: a booked booth or room, a charged headset, and a backup location if the venue's internet or your plans fail.

The cost of a failed client call exceeds any membership saving. Choose the venue that makes your worst-case call day still work.
